A mobilized network

Thanks to the many areas of expertise of its members (causes and consequences of climate change, role of ocean biodiversity, governance of climate, ocean and biodiversity, maritime transport, fisheries and aquaculture…), the Ocean & Climate Platform provides concrete, science-based solutions that combine protection of the ocean and its biodiversity with the fight against climate change in international (UNFCCC, CBD…) and national bodies (coordination of the Comité France Océan, regular exchanges with government departments).

The OCP also mobilises the skills of its members to discuss the major scientific issues surrounding the interactions between the ocean, climate and biodiversity, and participates in the French government review of the “ocean” chapters of the IPCC reports.

The realization of these missions is made possible by a continuous mobilization of the ocean-climate community, which includes

  • the organization of regular working groups on advocacy missions (co-construction of policy recommendations) and dissemination of scientific knowledge (review of the “ocean” parts of the IPCC reports and scientific mediation of their contents, the creation of scientific and educational sheets)
  • the organization of joint events in France and abroad
  • strong times of joint communication, especially during the major political momentum related to the ocean-climate-biodiversity nexus
  • the realization of a news watch and the production of an analysis offering a regular access to the last political and scientific news on “ocean-climate-biodiversity” as well as a decoding of their great stakes (prospective).
